12-Point Comprehensive Tile Quote Assessment Checklist

1

Make A Good Impression

Meet the customer with a friendly smile, well-presented and with your tile kits. Before getting started, let the customer know you'll walk through the areas, ask a few questions, and recommend the best option.

2

Conduct a Thorough Pre-Inspection

Understand what the customer wants. Ask the customer:

  • "What areas are you concerned about?"
  • "What result would you like to achieve?"

Complete a pre-inspection with the customer and address their concerns.

3

Ask Relevant Questions

During the inspection, ask the following questions:

  • Do you know the type of tile/stone?
  • How old are the tiles?
  • What product do you use to clean and maintain the tiles?
  • Have the tiles been professionally cleaned before?
4

Check The Skirting Boards

Check the skirting board for sealing around walls, and if it's made of MDF. If MDF, take extra precautions such as taping or controlling water usage near the skirting boards.

5

Assess Tile and Grout Condition

Look for potential issues such as tile porosity, missing grout, cracked tiles, stains, whether the tile/grout is sealed, and any variations in the grout colour.

6

Inspect The Grout Lines

If the client is interested in grout colouring, determine if the grout lines are high or low relative to the tile. High grout lines may not be suitable for re-colouring.

(An indicator of skim grouting is the application of an additional layer of grout for cosmetic purposes.)

7

Measure The Tile Areas and Take Notes

Measure the area for Tile and Grout Cleaning with a laser measure and record all relevant details.

8

Conduct a Test Patch

Let the customer know you'll complete a small test patch to show the expected result. Conduct a test patch over 2 tiles using an alkaline cleanser. Complete a test clean on one of the treated tiles with an acid cleanser. This will show the results of a deep clean vs a restorative clean.

For the purpose of a test clean, dilute both LF & Grout Restore 20 1:2 with water (1 part product, 2 parts water). This will reflect cleaning results at a 1:4 dilution.

If the restorative test clean (acid and alkaline) is darker than the deep clean (alkaline), use an airmover to dry the area so that the final cleaning result is clearer.

9

Explain Cleaning Options

Explain the difference between a deep clean and a restorative clean, and set clear expectations on the likely results.

Based on what you've seen, recommend the most suitable option.

10

Discuss Grout Clear Sealing

Discuss grout clear sealing options to minimise re-soiling.

11

Present the Quote to the Customer

Discuss the quote with the customer, including the price for a deep clean, restorative clean and grout sealing.

Advise the client that they will receive a written quote via email by the end of the following business day.

12

Ask the Client if they Would Like to Book the Job

Based on the results shown, confirm the recommended approach and expected outcome.

Ask the client whether they would like to proceed with the job. If the client declines, ask if they have any concerns or questions.
